A mixed use development comprising of student accommodation and office space, in a historic location in Bristol. The project created two podium breakout spaces for students, functioning as relaxation spaces and with an upper level featuring urban agriculture and a shrubbery roof garden. The frontage to the north took anti ramming defences and wind breaks in a new direction using large planters featuring further tree and shrub planting, coupled with additional seating to mitigate these considerations.
The southern courtyard served as a car park for office workers, which incorporated a large number of tree and ornamental cycle stores to green an otherwise very hard space. The main buildings within the site were extremely tall and saw the use of large trees, and many climbers as vital to help bring the development down to a more human scale.
The landscape design was led by the terra firma consultancy Ltd, with Niall Williams providing design and technical support whilst in their employment.
