This project was developed as part of a collaboration between Birmingham City University Co-Lab of which two of our team were a part and Node Urban Design Ltd. The show garden began as an internal university project, before growing into an accepted design for the BBC Gardeners World Flower Show, afterwards the design was viewed to be constructed in the Birmingham Jewellery Quarter.
The final design was based around modularity so it could transported to different sites around the city, including the flower show. Additionally this was so that the site could be redesigned to fit any location, be used as a smaller space but in multiple locations and adapted on site. The structures were designed to be multi functional, having the ability to open and close, they could be used by vendors or provide sheltered seating for local restaurants and pubs, whilst being able to be closed at night and used as storage secure storage.
