Uplands Allotments was a project to develop a concept for how the site could be future proofed and used to provide a wide range of services to the surrounding community. The project evolved from discussions with the allotment group and local residents about what they would like to see in their area. The project then developed to tackle local issues such as affordable housing, flooding, ecology and energy, whilst maintaining the primary function of the site which was for the allotment holders.
This design was carried out as a collaboration between Birmingham City University and the local allotment holders group. The university design team was led by ND Landscape Architects Ltd. employees.
